Why study XERECEPT?
Corticosteroids such as Decadron®* are currently the only effective treatment available for swelling caused by brain tumors. The use of Decadron is associated with many negative side effects. These negative side effects include muscle weakness and loss of strength, weight gain, decreased bone mass, bleeding of the stomach and/or intestines, and personality changes. There is also mounting experimental evidence suggesting that Decadron may interfere with radiation treatment and chemotherapy.
XERECEPT is an investigational drug, now being studied to see if it might be a safe and effective potential alternative to Decadron for brain swelling (edema) associated with brain tumors. It is important to learn as much as you can about any clinical trial, as participants are asked to follow strict guidelines. There may be risks involved. If you have any questions regarding this information, please see the list of study locations on this website and contact the clinic most convenient to you.
